FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
SPF FAQS
What is the difference between chemical and physical UV filters?
Organic (chemical) filters absorb UV radiation and convert it into a tiny amount of heat as a defence mechanism to protect the skin. Inorganic (physical) filters, like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, primarily absorb UV radiation but also reflect and scatter some of it, similarly creating a small amount of heat in the process. These mineral-based ingredients act as broad spectrum UV filters, protecting against both UVA and UVB rays.
What is SIMKASHIELD™ technology and how does it benefit my skin?
SIMKASHIELD™️ Technology is an advanced formulation that integrates sun protection with skincare. It includes a breakthrough antioxidant blend that:
• Shields against UV-induced damage during the day
• Fights free radicals at night

Is SIMKASHIELD™ safe for acne-prone skin?
Yes, SIMKASHIELD™️ Technology is formulated to protect sebum components from oxidation. Sebum peroxidation is a key factor in acne development, as oxidised sebum can clog pores and promote inflammation. By safeguarding these components, SIMKASHIELD™️ helps maintain the skin’s natural balance and reduces the likelihood of acne breakouts, contributing to clearer, healthier skin.
Are SIMKA sunscreens suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, SIMKA Sheer Mineral Milk SPF50 is specifically formulated to be sensitive skin friendly and is suitable for the whole family, including infants and toddlers. It offers a nourishing formula that glides onto the skin without causing irritation. However, our recommendation is to avoid using sunscreen on babies under 6 months old. This is because their skin is much more sensitive than older children and adults. It’s important to follow the latest guidelines and recommendations from health authorities and organisations such as the Australian Cancer Council.
Does SIMKASHIELD™technology provide protection against infrared (IR) radiation?
Yes! SIMKASHIELD™️ Technology provides protection against infrared (IR) radiation, which constitutes about 45% of the solar spectrum. This spectrum is made up of UV rays, visible light, and IR. In a study, using SIMKASHIELD™️ at just 1% resulted in a 30% reduction in oxidative stress to the skin. This demonstrates that our formulation is truly powerful, significantly reducing oxidative stress and protecting the skin from harmful radiation.

What is DHA and why do we need it?
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is a long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid Omega-3, and a building block of cell membranes in human nerves, brain tissue, eyes, and skin. DHA offers the most direct source of Omega-3 as it comprises over 90% of the Omega-3 fatty acids in your brain and up to 25% of its total lipid content. While it can be synthesised from alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based Omega-3 fatty acid, this process is very inefficient.
Do we require an equal ratio of DHA and EPA?
High EPA is unnecessary due to the fact that DHA can be converted to EPA by the body when it is required.According to research, EPA levels rise with DHA dosing, though notably, DHA levels never rise with EPA dosing. DHA is particularly prevalent in the brain and can be retro-converted to EPA, serving as a generator of EPA.
